Nazareno

The social cooperative Nazareno operates with people with disability, mental disorders and disadvantages in general. Headquarters is in Villa Chierici, an ancient well-restored villa in the residential area of Carpi, in the province of Modena. In Carpi, beyond day care and residential centers, there is a shop in the city centre which sells products (pottery artifacts, leather goods, jewelery, handmade paper etc.) realized by the Cooperativa Nazareno and other Italian social cooperatives. Another important unit of the Cooperativa Nazareno is Casa Mantovani, a psychiatric residential center, based in Bologna.
Tourism Attractiveness
Since 1999 Cooperativa Sociale Nazareno has been organizing International Festival of Different Abilities in Carpi, Correggio, Modena and Bologna. This is a 15-day event based on theatre, music, dance shows, contests, film festivals, presentation of books, debates, conventions and (since 2007) art exhibitions. Nazareno offers vists to the art painting and artisanal workshops, as well as to the shop selling artifacts realized in the workshops by disadvantaged people.. From mid-May to mid-September Cooperativa Nazareno offers a catering service (restaurant run by people with disadvantages) in the park of Villa Chierici, serving typical meals from Emilia Romagna. The cooperative also collaborates with the most famous canteen of the area: Cantina Sociale di Sorbara, which produces Lambrusco wine.
